While solar power has become more widely adopted in recent years, there are still many aspects of it that are relatively unknown. With that in mind, here are some of the most common questions we’ve seen in regards to using solar energy.
Will I still be connected to the grid after getting solar panels?
It depends. Because solar panels don’t produce energy at night, you will need to remain connected to the utility grid or use a solar battery to get electricity at night. However, installing solar batteries will add to the total cost of your system.
What is net metering?
Many utilities offer net metering, which offsets your electricity costs based on how much energy your solar panels produce during the day. You are billed based on the difference between how much electricity you draw from the grid, and how much your panels generated. In some cases, this could completely eliminate your electricity charges!
How will solar panels fit on my roof?
As long as your roof is in good condition and doesn’t have too steep of a slope, it should be able to support a solar panel system. The best location is large and gets lots of sunlight so that it can produce energy throughout the day.
How much will it cost?
The cost of rooftop solar will vary based on the size of the system. However, residential customers can still qualify for federal tax credits and other incentive programs to lower their expenses.
